Ruby Rafters

Overnight Program

AGES 9-11

Grab your board and get ready for the ultimate Colorado River adventure!

This week-long ducky and SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding) journey is perfect for everyone—from total beginners to seasoned shredders. We’ll kick things off with a fun day of lakeside training led by the Academy’s boating director, where you’ll learn all the basics and try out your first strokes. Then, it’s time to level up!

Gear up as we head to the stunning Ruby Horsethief section of the Colorado River. With boards, dry bags, and overnight supplies packed, we’ll paddle into the breathtaking canyon, where rugged cliffs meet peaceful waters. Over three amazing days, we’ll find our FLOW—honing paddle techniques, building core strength, and laughing through “board games” as we wind through the twists and turns of the canyon.

The highlight? A Rocky Mountain Luau on a remote beach under the stars! Wake up to a golden sunrise and paddle your way out of this magical high desert paradise. Surfs up, Colorado style—let’s make waves!

Important: Students will spend most of this program on the river. PFDs will always be worn, but participants should be confident swimmers and comfortable around moving water.

Telluride Academy's Overnight Policy

Our talented instructors work hard to combat student homesickness on overnight programs. For many students, this experience might be their first time camping or away from home! In the days leading up to the overnight(s), the instructors have positive conversations with the groups to get them excited and prepared for their overnight adventures. This dynamic gets interrupted when a student is picked up early from their overnight. For this reason, we can not accommodate early pick-ups, unless in the case of an emergency. If your child does not want to attend the overnight, or if you have prior commitments that require early pick-up accommodations, we ask that you consider choosing a day program instead. Please call our office with any questions or concerns.
