High Camp Cook-off: A Culinary Adventure in the Mountains!
Get ready for a mouthwatering mountain escapade with High Camp Cook-off! This exciting camp for 10–12-year-olds blends outdoor adventure with hands-on culinary creativity in the stunning San Juan Mountains. The fun kicks off on Monday with an interactive cooking lesson at the Ah Haa School for the Arts, where young chefs will learn essential kitchen skills and recipe techniques to prepare them for the ultimate backcountry cooking showdown.
Then, the adventure heats up at the High Camp Hut, where campers will embark on a double-overnight journey into the art of campfire cooking. With breathtaking views as their inspiration, participants will prepare gourmet meals, tackle thrilling cooking challenges, and even master campfire classics like the perfect s’more.
In between meals, campers will hike scenic trails, relax in a wood-fired hot tub, and bond around the campfire under a blanket of stars. This unique camp is a recipe for fun, blending teamwork, outdoor exploration, and culinary magic into an unforgettable adventure. Whether you’re a budding chef or just love the great outdoors, High Camp Cookoff promises to satisfy your appetite for fun!
All participants in need will receive Telluride Academy backpacks, sleeping bags and sleeping pads while participating in this program! We ask that you bring your child’s belongings in a duffle bag on the first morning so instructors can help students properly pack their provided backpacks. Students must also bring a bottom sheet and towel to High Camp!
Important Notes: This is a great intro backpacking program! The trail to High Camp is two-miles with moderate grade. Students should feel comfortable hiking this trail with some weight on their backs. High Camp sits at over 11,000 feet. We recommend arriving to Telluride a few days early for any student prone to altitude sickness.
