Thank you for an amazing 43rd summer at Telluride Academy!

Ranch Hands

Two Week Overnight Program
|
AGES 10-12

The Academy’s popular Ranch Hands program is returning in 2023 with a new twist and a special two-week format. This program will bring students to working ranches and farms across the region to spend time with barn animals and learn about agriculture and farm-to-table cooking. During our first week, we’ll tour local ranches before driving down to Durango, CO! Here, we will spend an evening at the True Western Roundup, a long-time regional rodeo, which will help us get in touch with our western roots. We’ll get hands-on with horses, tour fields of flowers and learn about local harvesting practices. Our second week will be an immersive overnight experience at Gunnison River Farms where we’ll collect fresh fruits, prepare sample meals and enjoy life on the farm. This magnificent working orchard will play host to our adventure into the world of fresh food and culinary creations. Our grand finale will be a “Harvest Dinner” prepared by our young emerging chefs!

Telluride Academy's Overnight Policy

Our talented instructors work hard to combat student homesickness on overnight programs. For many students, this experience might be their first time camping or away from home! In the days leading up to the overnight(s), the instructors have positive conversations with the groups to get them excited and prepared for their overnight adventures. This dynamic gets interrupted when a student is picked up early from their overnight. For this reason, we can not accommodate early pick-ups, unless in the case of an emergency. If your child does not want to attend the overnight, or if you have prior commitments that require early pick-up accommodations, we ask that you consider choosing a day program instead. Please call our office with any questions or concerns.
