Elevate & Educate

Overnight Program
|
AGES 10-12

Join Telluride Academy for “Elevate & Educate,” a high-altitude adventure with hands-on scientific exploration. Participants will hike to High Camp, a luxurious backcountry hut nestled in the San Juan National Forest. It is here, in our remote classroom, where we’ll become citizen scientists! We’ll discover the richness of the alpine ecosystem through biodiversity monitoring and assess its health by measuring tree growth. Together we’ll adventure through the forest to explore the intricate dance between pollinators and native plants. This camp promises an unforgettable educational adventure at the nexus of nature, knowledge, and community. Join “Elevate & Educate” to not just experience, but elevate your understanding of the alpine forest while actively contributing to its preservation!

All participants will receive Telluride Academy backpacks, sleeping bags and sleeping pads while participating in this program! We ask that you bring your child’s belongings in a duffle bag on the first morning so instructors can help students properly pack their provided backpacks. Students must also bring a bottom sheet and towel to High Camp!

Important Notes: This is a great intro backpacking program! The trail to High Camp is two-miles with moderate grade. Students should feel comfortable hiking this trail with some weight on their backs. High Camp sits at over 11,000 feet. We recommend arriving to Telluride a few days early for any student prone to altitude sickness.

Telluride Academy's Overnight Policy

Our talented instructors work hard to combat student homesickness on overnight programs. For many students, this experience might be their first time camping or away from home! In the days leading up to the overnight(s), the instructors have positive conversations with the groups to get them excited and prepared for their overnight adventures. This dynamic gets interrupted when a student is picked up early from their overnight. For this reason, we can not accommodate early pick-ups, unless in the case of an emergency. If your child does not want to attend the overnight, or if you have prior commitments that require early pick-up accommodations, we ask that you consider choosing a day program instead. Please call our office with any questions or concerns.
