Durango Dash

Overnight Program
|
AGES 11-14

Pack your bags and grab your sense of adventure—because we’re heading south for a high-energy tour of all the must-do experiences in the Durango region! This three-night expedition gives campers a taste of Southwest Colorado’s wild side, with time on the river, trails, treetops, and lakeshore. Our home base for the week is the beautiful Durango Nature Center, where campers will set up tents, cook meals together, and settle into camp life under the stars. From there, we’ll tackle a full lineup of Durango classics: soaring across forested canyons on a zipline course, paddling inflatable kayaks (duckies) through rapids on the Animas River, and cooling off with afternoon swimming at Lake Nighthorse. We’ll also lace up our boots for a half-day hike into the breathtaking Weminuche Wilderness, where wide-open skies, rugged peaks, and wildflower meadows reward every step. Evenings bring campfires, games, stargazing, and the simple joy of life outdoors with friends. After three action-packed nights, we’ll break down camp, share one last Durango sunrise, and make our way back to Telluride with tired legs, dirty faces, and big smiles.

Telluride Academy's Overnight Policy

Our talented instructors work hard to combat student homesickness on overnight programs. For many students, this experience might be their first time camping or away from home! In the days leading up to the overnight(s), the instructors have positive conversations with the groups to get them excited and prepared for their overnight adventures. This dynamic gets interrupted when a student is picked up early from their overnight. For this reason, we can not accommodate early pick-ups, unless in the case of an emergency. If your child does not want to attend the overnight, or if you have prior commitments that require early pick-up accommodations, we ask that you consider choosing a day program instead. Please call our office with any questions or concerns.
