Wild Weminuche is an immersive outdoor program designed to introduce students to the captivating realm of self-supported backpacking while exploring the vast wilderness of Colorado. The centerpiece of the program is a two-night backpacking expedition into the expansive Weminuche Wilderness, the largest designated wilderness area in the state. Participants will engage in a series of hands-on workshops that cover essential backpacking skills, ranging from trip planning and map reading to route finding, Leave No Trace principles, and understanding weather patterns. Aspiring mountaineers will have the opportunity to develop a comprehensive skill set, gaining confidence and knowledge amidst the stunning landscapes of the Weminuche Wilderness, fostering a deep connection to nature and self-sufficiency in the great outdoors.
*Students are required to provide a proper trekking backpack, sleeping bag and sleeping pad for this program.
