Calling all boaters! Join us on this unique solstice adventure as we paddle the famous and mighty Colorado River. We’ll spend this special week flowing through the rugged beauty of the Ruby Horsethief Canyon. Students will work with the Academy’s passionate and qualified boating staff to rig and pack their own individual watercrafts. Instruction will be given and reinforced on proper paddling techniques and how to read river currents as well as safe and effective ways of communicating and working together on the water. Our river days will be spent exploring side canyons, preparing big backcountry meals and enjoying long leisurely paddles on the water. Evenings will be spent at beach-side base camps where sand, swimming and shady retreats will be in ample supply and each day will end with desert sunsets and moon-lit evenings. Boaters will ring in the summer solstice by perfecting their paddling techniques and embracing the tranquil peace of the river on the longest days of the year!
Important Notes:
Students will be on the river for most of this program. Though PFDs will be worn on the water, students should be confident swimmers and feel comfortable around moving water.
