Service and City

Travel Program
|
AGES 13-15

This program combines a meaningful service project experience with a big-city adventure. The first part of this program takes us to Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota for a week of service and cultural immersion through the independent non-profit, Re-Member. Pine Ridge Reservation is home to the people of the Oglala Lakota Nation. It is known to be one of the poorest communities in the country and encompasses the county with the lowest median per-capita income in the nation. Re-Member’s work is guided by the aspirations of tribal members who are generous with their wisdom as cultural speakers, community leaders and builders of understanding. During our week at Re-Member, students will spend their days building bunk beds and vital infrastructure, participating in pow-wow’s and community dinners and visiting regional museums, craft outlets and tribal businesses. Students will stay in bunkhouses with other volunteers and become fully immersed in the mission of Re-Member. Once our service project is complete, we’ll head to Denver for a weekend of reflection and reward. We’ll spend a day touring MeowWolf, visiting the Denver Aquarium and Denver Selfie Museum, and enjoying a big dinner on the town. Our final day will be spent at Coors Field for a Rockies vs. Yankees baseball game! Don’t miss out on this opportunity to work hard, make a difference and have some fun.

Telluride Academy's Overnight Policy

Our talented instructors work hard to combat student homesickness on overnight programs. For many students, this experience might be their first time camping or away from home! In the days leading up to the overnight(s), the instructors have positive conversations with the groups to get them excited and prepared for their overnight adventures. This dynamic gets interrupted when a student is picked up early from their overnight. For this reason, we can not accommodate early pick-ups, unless in the case of an emergency. If your child does not want to attend the overnight, or if you have prior commitments that require early pick-up accommodations, we ask that you consider choosing a day program instead. Please call our office with any questions or concerns.
