Academy International returns with an unparalleled adventure deep into the heart of Panama. Spend two action-packed weeks engaged in the local culture of Panama while touring historical landmarks, indulging in native cuisine, conversing with locals and surfing and fishing the pristine waters of the Pacific Coast! This program starts with adventures in the country’s grand capital, Panama City. The group will deplane and immediately be immersed in Panamanian life. Students will enjoy a boat tour of the Panama Canal, expeditions through the Gamboa rainforest and Chagres River, an educational opportunity with the Emberá tribe and even learn about the political and social history of Panama through a graffiti tour of the old and new city! Evenings will be spent dining at local restaurants and exploring the shops and markets of Casco Viejo. After our time in the city, students will head to the remote but bustling village of Santa Catalina for a full week of fun. Time will be spent surfing and swimming in the Pacific Ocean, snorkeling in Coiba, playing games, relaxing on the beach, fishing, and participating in authentic crafting and cooking classes. The quaint Bodhi Hostel will be our home base each evening to relax, nourish and reflect on fun memories with new friends. Schedule:
Program departs on Monday, June 19th and returns on Sunday, July 1st
Monday, June 19th: Fly to Panama City, Panama! Check into the hostel and stroll the Casco Viejo.
Tuesday, June 20th: Take a full-day boat tour of the Gamboa Rainforest. Explore Monkey Island and a local sloth sanctuary!
Wednesday, June 21st: Participate in a cultural activity with the Embera Tribe and an outing on the Chagres River.
Thursday, June 22nd: Enjoy a walking graffiti tour of the Casco Viejo and surrounding region. Dinner in town to celebrate our last night in the city.
Friday, June 23rd: Shuttle to Casa Bodhi in Santa Catalina! Stop in El Pintado for a cultural hat weaving activity. Arrive at Casa Bodhi, unpack, go over house rules and rest!
Saturday, June 24- Thursday, June 29: Get ready for a full week of adventures in Santa Catalina!! Take surf lessons, snorkel through the shores of Coiba Island, tour the local villages by bike, participate in local cooking classes, learn how to fish and relax on the beach!
Friday, June 30: Last morning at Casa Bodhi! Shuttle back to Panama City. Local waterfall hike and check into hostel.
Saturday, July 1: Catch a flight back to America! Big hugs and high fives to conclude an epic international adventure.
