Intro to Bikepacking

Travel Program
|
AGES 11-13

Gear up for the adventure of a lifetime with our NEW Intro to Bikepacking program! This is a week-long adventure where students will discover the fundamentals of bikepacking with the support of their peers and our skilled riding instructors. On Monday, we’ll load up the van and head out to the Uncompahgre Plateau for a warm-up ride and introductory workshop. On Tuesday, we’ll begin our official bikebacking trek with an early morning start! We’ll explore new trails and travel by bike to our next two campsites, with the support of a shuttle vehicle that will carry most of our gear. The goal is for our bikes to be as light as possible as we traverse the plateau to different picturesque campsites. Our strong legs and positive attitudes will carry us from place to place as we gain confidence, skill and appreciation for human-powered travel. This program is the perfect stepping stone to longer, self-supported pack trips!

*Please note this is NOT an “intro to mountain biking” camp. Riders should have experience riding single-track trails and the endurance to ride upwards of 10+ miles per day. Participants should be able to climb and descend under control on moderately steep singletrack with loose rocks or roots.

*Students are required to provide their own mountain bikes and helmets for this program.

Schedule:
Monday – Thursday
The group will depart on Monday and return on Thursday.

Telluride Academy's Overnight Policy

Our talented instructors work hard to combat student homesickness on overnight programs. For many students, this experience might be their first time camping or away from home! In the days leading up to the overnight(s), the instructors have positive conversations with the groups to get them excited and prepared for their overnight adventures. This dynamic gets interrupted when a student is picked up early from their overnight. For this reason, we can not accommodate early pick-ups, unless in the case of an emergency. If your child does not want to attend the overnight, or if you have prior commitments that require early pick-up accommodations, we ask that you consider choosing a day program instead. Please call our office with any questions or concerns.
