Alpine Academy

Overnight Program
|
AGES 11-13

Nestled high in the San Juan Mountains, under the shadow of Sheep Mountain is the High Camp Hut. Accessed by a short trek into the backcountry, students will live in a massive mountain lodge that is fully equipped with a kitchen, lounging areas, wood burning stoves and cozy sleeping quarters! This immersive adventure of high-alpine off-the-grid living, will include workshops that range from safe mountain travel, basic first aid, watershed education and interactive team building initiatives. It is here, in our outdoor classroom, students will acquire skills for a future of adventures and inquiry-based learning. We will also leave plenty of room for massive backcountry meals, raging bonfires, and warm soaks in the outdoor wood-burning hot tub! Join us to experience the unique learning opportunities that exist at our high alpine campus!

*Students are required to provide their own proper trekking backpacks and sleeping bags for this program.

Telluride Academy's Overnight Policy

Our talented instructors work hard to combat student homesickness on overnight programs. For many students, this experience might be their first time camping or away from home! In the days leading up to the overnight(s), the instructors have positive conversations with the groups to get them excited and prepared for their overnight adventures. This dynamic gets interrupted when a student is picked up early from their overnight. For this reason, we can not accommodate early pick-ups, unless in the case of an emergency. If your child does not want to attend the overnight, or if you have prior commitments that require early pick-up accommodations, we ask that you consider choosing a day program instead. Please call our office with any questions or concerns.
