Monday, July 8th: Fly from hub city to Kona, Hawaii. Drive to Big Island Farm for an orientation and rest & relax in preparation for an exciting two weeks!
Tuesday, July 9th: Participate in a farm tour focused on Big Island Farm’s food forest and regenerative programs, composting and different permaculture techniques adjusted to the big island’s micro-climate. Spend the afternoon learning about Hawaiian culture and visit the Waipio Valley Lookout.
Wednesday, July 10th: Beach day! Drive to Hapuna Beach for a full day of sand, sea and sun.
Thursday, July 11th: Learn about tropical planting during a permaculture workshop with Big Island Farms. Design your own garden before exploring the nearby small towns.
Friday, July 12th: Hike beneath breathtaking cliffs into the Pololu Valley. Spend the day exploring it’s black sand beaches and lush forest.
Saturday, July 13th: Spend the morning learning about medicinal plants, identifying herbs and concocting tinctures with a certified herbalist. Enjoy some downtime before harvesting ingredients and preparing a community farm-to-table meal with a local chef.
Sunday, July 14th: Visit the Honokaa Farmer’s Market and meet vendors from around the region! Drive to the Hiilawe Falls trailhead and hike into the famous 1,200-foot waterfall. This waterfall is the tallest waterfall in the entire state of Hawaii!
Monday, July 15th: Volcano National Park!
Tuesday, July 16th: Surf lessons in Kona with local instructors! Spend the day learning how to pop up, paddle out and catch waves. When you aren’t surfing, you’ll be enjoying the sand beneath your feet and the sun on your face.
Wednesday, July 17th: Explore tidepools and venture through the sands of Makalawena Beach. This area can’t be reached by road! The hike in will allow the group to get away from the crowds and enjoy a secluded day at the beach.
Thursday, July 18th: Enjoy one final day of surfing in Kona and spend the evening celebrating the new places we visited and the new friends we met!
Friday, July 19th: Fly from Kona back to our hub city before arriving home!
