Advanced Pedal Paddle

Travel Program
|
AGES 10-12

Join Telluride Academy for Advanced Pedal Paddle—an extraordinary journey that blends mountain biking and moving water paddling. We’ll kick off the week by warming up our bike skills in the Telluride area before heading out to Ridgway for the night. On Tuesday, we’ll start our day with a ride at Ridgway Area Trails where we’ll navigate diverse routes suitable for the intermediate rider. Following the biking excitement, our next destination is the Gunnison River. Here, our boating staff will prepare the group for an exhilarating overnight river trip. We’ll paddle to a scenic campsite for the night and then continue the journey to the take-out the following day. The adventure doesn’t end there! Our next stop is the Colorado National Monument, where we’ll camp and prepare for the grand finale—mountain biking in Fruita. Get ready for an unforgettable week of outdoor exploration, camaraderie, and the perfect blend of biking and paddling adventures.

Students are required to provide their own mountain bikes and helmets for this program.

Important Notes:

*This program is for intermediate riders. Students in this program should have two or more years of mountain biking experience and can climb and descend under control on moderately steep singletrack with loose rocks or roots.

*Students will be on the river for most of this program. Though PFDs will be worn on the water, students should be confident swimmers and feel comfortable around moving water. River trips are subject to change based on water levels, weather and ability.

Telluride Academy's Overnight Policy

Our talented instructors work hard to combat student homesickness on overnight programs. For many students, this experience might be their first time camping or away from home! In the days leading up to the overnight(s), the instructors have positive conversations with the groups to get them excited and prepared for their overnight adventures. This dynamic gets interrupted when a student is picked up early from their overnight. For this reason, we can not accommodate early pick-ups, unless in the case of an emergency. If your child does not want to attend the overnight, or if you have prior commitments that require early pick-up accommodations, we ask that you consider choosing a day program instead. Please call our office with any questions or concerns.
